From Bk1 of #Eternelles INESCAPABLE: A sensual and dangerous dream #snippetsunday

Hello world!
Still waiting for summer weather to come to Malta, but it seems we still have a little wait compared to the usual, and even the spring hasn't really settled in fully yet. As my vacation time starts on Friday, I just hope that the sun decides to cooperate once and for all! If it doesn't, we'll just have to watch many movies indoors and stare longingly at the pool on the terrace of the vacation home. I haven't taken a holiday in a long, long time though, and I'm just happy at the prospect of relaxing for a few days. :)

I'll also be doing a bunch of reading while away. I've missed getting immersed in a good book, and I promised a few people I would be checking out their work ASAP. I can't wait!

Speaking of books... I can't believe INESCAPABLE will be out in May (around the 10th). We're just crossing a few "t's" and dotting a few "i's" right now, but time is ticking and it will soon be on the virtual shelves. Some weeks after that, we'll have a print version too :).  If you like books with lots of fantasy and adventure, you would love this one. In essence, this series is about the difficult relationship between a unique mother and daughter team. Two strong heroines with a lot on their shoulders, not the least of which includes saving the world! Of course, we offer exciting romance, intrigue, and lots of heart-stopping moments in this first instalment. We hope that you will be including this in your "to-read" pile this year. It would make two authors very happy :).

So, my character is Sera Dionysios - a woman of mysterious origins, and who is decidedly part-phoenix. Last week I mentioned how Sera's mysterious bond with a man called Rafe gives her mother, Adri, the hives. Adri,
an immortal daughter of the Greek god, Dionysos and a human maenad, was even raised on Olympus, and she has tons of experience on Sera. Thus, she is very protective of her daughter, something that isn't always appreciated. Horror of horrors - Sera even dreams about Rafe, and I shared the start of a dream last week with you. Here's more...

Memories of William’s warm blue eyes and handsome blond looks faded, and guilt made her flinch and narrow her eyes, her shoulders and arms tense. The sensation hit her like tiny sharp fingernails grating on wood.
“Rafe…” she gasped.  His name fell from the tip of her tongue, riding on wisps of a soft breeze. Alarm filled her, so real and tangible.
The fog surrounded him, flirted with him, but dared not touch him, as though it, too, were afraid of this man. But he was too beautiful to be a mere man.
He hooked her gaze with his own, and she drowned in hints of hazel, flecks of gold, and depths of the richest whiskey. She swallowed hard when feelings of lust birthed in her belly. She didn’t want this. No.
“I’m pleased to see you, Séraphine,” he said, using her full name.
The voice, that decadent voice, damn near killed her.
And then he was upon her, so close, touching her.

Eternelles and the joys of motherhood: a daughter's perspective

Hello beautiful world!

Last week, I introduced Sera, my character in the Eternelles series. Sera is an interesting woman. She is youthful, highly creative and intelligent, but some events in her life affected her in a negative way--sometimes to the extreme. Dealing with her mother has become tricky, not only because of her parent's overprotectiveness, but also because Adri's managing of a certain situation has created a wide chasm between mother and daughter.

Mother-daughter relationships are never easy or straightforward, and in Eternelles, we kick it up a few notches. Check also Zee's take on this today on her blog.

Perhaps I already mentioned this but one thing that made it fun writing these characters was the way we chose to split writing duties - I wrote Sera while Zee wrote Adri. Despite my older age, I greatly enjoyed myself writing a twenty-something girl who's into fast food, dance music, and bohemian clothes and decor.

One of the biggest mysteries in Sera's life is her relationship with a man called Rafe Harcourt. Well, he's not exactly a man but something entirely different, mysterious and intimidating. Rafe is everything Sera doesn't want. Or is he? Adri despises him because he ruined her daughter. Sera wants Adri to stop meddling in her business. One thing's for sure, she dreams about him a lot...

Here's one example below. What do you think? Is Adri right to mistrust Rafe Harcourt? Or should she let him continue to toy with her daughter, even in her dreams?

The central London fog swirled around her with ethereal tentacles until it enveloped everything as far as her eyes could see. The chill tried to invade her, but she focused her thoughts on the man she was to marry, William, and warmth coursed through her body. With hurried steps and a light heart, she walked on…but something blocked her path.
A large man appeared in the mist. Tall, powerful…dangerous. His magnetism called to her in a way her body could do nothing but heed, and she raked up his form with a slow gaze, as though savoring a box of the finest truffles she didn’t want to run out of. Her security however eroded with every inch discovered, with every glimpse of muscle lingered on. She finally lifted her eyes to his.
God above. Mercifully, the words gathered in her mouth but never left her lips. His dark, handsome face arrested her; every plane, every curve an exercise in perfection. An exotic sheikh in civilized clothing. A wolf in disguise.

Inescapable, Book 1 in the Eternelles series is due out in May. Stay tuned for more!

#snippetsunday From Bk1 INESCAPABLE: 1st peek at #upcoming #indie series Eternelles

Hello beautiful world!

Today I'm excited to post the first snippet from the first book in my and Zee Monodee's co-written Eternelles series, INESCAPABLE. Eternelles means the Eternal ones in French, and this is what the entire series is all about - two immortal who fight Evil and search for mysteries from their past. The entire series is written entirely in the two points of view of the women.

On the one hand, you have Adrasteia "Adri" Dionysios - written by Zee Monodee - a tough woman who has lived for close to three millenia. She is the daughter of a Greek god, a wealthy heiress, trained and powerful warrior, sultry temptress, and finally, in her most important role of all - a mother who'd do anything to protect her daughter. Motherhood is, to Adri, the toughest job of all. Zee Monodee discusses her character on her blog today - make sure you check it out!

On the other hand, there's Seraphine "Sera" Dionysios - my character - a young woman who literally fell in Adri's arms as a baby in 1887. What makes this whole thing extraordinary apart from the fact that this baby just appeared out of thin air? She was wrapped in fire but didn't burn. Well, Sera is quite the unique creature - she's part phoenix, part gypsy, and in her twenties, became part vampyre. Aside from this information, her origins are shrouded in mystery and the purpose of the whole series is to solve this puzzle. What is the purpose of Sera's existence?

Those who know Zee and me will find it funny that I wrote the younger character, while Zee wrote the mother, as in real life I am much older than my co-writer (by how much, I won't say... shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! lol)

The series will take the format of a TV show. You have episodes and seasons and one leads into the other. There is a beginning and an end, a main story arc and different subplots that will be given due attention.

Sera and Adri live in Shadow Bridge, a magical town located between DC and NYC where all kinds of supernatural creatures live - separated from the human world by a veil. In this town is a portal that always needs to be closed but Evil has other plans...

Lots of interesting characters live in Shadow Bridge, and we had incredible fun writing them!

Then you have the men, of course, the exotic Rafe Harcourt, vampyre, who changed Sera's life forever; and Des Roxburgh - a fascinating creature who cannot really be pegged, at least until Adri decides to investigate :).

INESCAPABLE is scheduled for release in May. Here's what it's about:

An immortal born from an unlikely alliance...

Beautiful mythic Greek heiress Adrasteia 'Adri' Dionysios has roamed the world for millennia, taking her pleasure where she wanted. Until one night, when Fate drops a baby wrapped in fire into her arms. Motherhood is a formidable challenge, but so is figuring out the identity of a mystery man who makes her pulse race.

A vampyre’s obsession…

Seraphine 'Sera' Dionysios' origins are shrouded in mystery. Torn between a mother whose blood saved her life, and a man who now possesses her soul, the only thing Sera can still cling to is her heart.

One rule matters above all others: Always protect the portal…

When Evil comes to Adri and Sera’s hometown of Shadow Bridge, a place where the mortal human world ends and the supernatural realm starts, it’s up to them to stop a prophecy as old as time itself...or die trying.

Below is a snippet showing the first lines in my character's point of view - Sera Dionysios...

“Why do you torture yourself like this? Every year it’s the same thing all over again. Put something on and come to the gala with me. We’re in New York City! Get your mind off of that.
No. It’s April fifteenth, and that’s the problem.
From the elegant couch where her feet in the woolen green and white striped bed socks dangled off the armrest, Séraphine ‘Sera’ Dionysios cast a bored glance at her mother, Adri, who pointed with vehemence at the forty-two inch wall-mounted television.  The movie Titanic blared in full swing on the screen.
A stark plea echoed in the cultured voice that still carried a lilting French accent, despite decades—no, centuries—of living in England. The pain-filled summon traveled over the gilded picture frames and high-end Louis XV furniture of the Backhouse Royal Hotel penthouse suite upon waves of tension, resentment, and grief that hit Sera right in the gut.
Her mother could not know that her words had driven home, though. Adri shouldn’t know what went on inside her daughter’s lost heart right then. Anything but that. So while Sera, upper body propped by three king-size goose down pillows, stuffed herself with a beastly slice of triple chocolate cake, she returned her gaze to the screen in an act of absolute masochism. Atonement, as she saw it—the kind that never ended, no matter how much time passed. A crucial scene she couldn’t miss. Jack was in the act of drawing a voluptuous, naked Rose in one of the movie’s most sensual moments. A budding love, a painfully intimate snapshot. She could almost smell the scent of their desire as strongly as the liquor in her moist cake.
Rose watched him die in the end, but at least she was with him. Until that last breath, she was with him…

Hope you enjoyed the little excerpt! If you did, look out for more in the coming weeks!
